MORE than 60,000 people will flock to RAF Woodvale this weekend (August 6 and 7) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the rally.
The annual Woodvale Rally will be bigger and better this year with advanced ticket sales and campsite bookings far exceeding previous years.
Once again the rally will provide a fun-packed weekend for all the family with many new attractions, free entertainment and much, much more.
New this year is the world-famous Vander Brothers ‘Wheels of Death’, who will be returning from South Africa just to attend the event.
In addition, the spectacular pyrotechnic display, which usually takes place on the Sunday, will be staged on both days. The Dambusters themed display will start at 4.45pm.
Free entertainment for children include the popular Crazy Bears, Tinderbox Crafts and land trains. Southport Model Engineering Cub will also be providing rides for a modest charge.
Other entertainment for children are model tanks to drive and slot car racing for which there will be a chance to win a prize.
Returning for 2011 by popular demand is the thrilling and original ‘Wall of Death’ Ken Fox Troupe World Tour, which first appeared in the UK in 1929, and once again entertaining the crowds will be the West Lancashire Dog Display Team.
General manager Peter Wood, said: “ Once again the line-up for this year’s milestone rally provides something for all members of the family whether an enthusiast, collector or those looking for a great day out.”
The military vehicle section will also be bigger this year with 1st World War re-enactment displays and military bands. The vehicles will also be taking part in its historic road run from the airfield to Southport on Saturday at about 6.45pm.
Other highlights are: stunt motorcyclists including the acclaimed Neil Porter and ten times world champion Steve Colley “Mr Showtime’; Rolls Royce, Merlin and Griffin Aero engine displays; vintage and classic cars and motorcycles; model car racing; large model aircraft; stationary engines and a car restoration workshop.
There will also be a spectacular model railway tent with full size steam loco on display from Ribble Steam Railway and a class 40 Diesel Locomotive cab for people to explore.
The popular fairground is sure to be popular again together with a colourful kite festival, Morris dancing, live music from ten different bands, country market and craft fair.
Laurel and Hardy look-alikes and even Miss Southport Abi Bridgeman will be spotted around the showground. The comedy due will be performing magic tricks and mixing with the crowds so don’t forget a camera. Miss Southport will present the motorcycle awards, performing with her new band ‘The Bon Bonz’ and will also be helping Neil Porter in the stunt bike area.
Tickets in advance for both days are £10 for adults, £5 for children, £8 for OAPs and £25 for a family ticket. At the gate adults tickets cost £12, children £6, OAPs £10 and a family ticket is £30. Tickets are valid for both days. Gates open at 9am.
